Short, gray days bring a chill to the air. Washed out colors and overcast skies give way to occasional sharp, white bursts of sunlight on new snow. Temperatures plunge as crystals form, pulling moisture from the organic. Winter is about hibernation, or at least sheltering from the elements long enough to tune out the static and focus on building something new, in the dark, under a frozen blanket of atmosphere.
