Japan
by Matt Sommers
2005
I've never been to Japan. This album is a response to the Japanese fascination with american culture.
Imaginary TV theme songs ("The beast"), social behavior films ("A shocking fact") and post-modern sound sculptures ("Thin" and "Plink the pig") litter the landscape. I learned to scratch during these sessions ("Punt"). "Lunacy" is strangeness from my handheld tape recorder. "Morph attempt", "The great machine" and "Beautiful" are re-workings of Magical Attraction of Booty! songs (who had it's own flirtations with Japan). I sang on this album more than most. It was extremely enjoyable to make.
The cover is a blurred koi pond.
